Arithmetic Mean

The arithmetic mean (average) is the sum of the values divided by how many there are. For a frequency table it is $\bar{x}=\frac{\sum(f\cdot x)}{\sum f}$. When the data has an extreme value the mean can be misleading, and the median describes the data more fairly.
