Coordinates

The coordinate plane is formed by a horizontal $x$-axis and a vertical $y$-axis meeting at the origin $(0,0)$. A point is located by an ordered pair $(x,y)$: the $x$-coordinate first, then the $y$-coordinate. The axes split the plane into four quadrants, each with its own pattern of signs.
