Decimals to the Thousandths Place

الشرح
👀 Let's look
Decimals to the thousandths place. Place value carries on past the point.
Tenths, then hundredths, then thousandths.
Place value after the point
Place value does not stop at the ones. To the right of the decimal point come tenths, then hundredths, then thousandths — each one a tenth the size of the place before it.
So 3.472 is 3 wholes, 4 tenths, 7 hundredths and 2 thousandths. Written out, that is 3 + 0.4 + 0.07 + 0.002, and adding those up gives the number back.
The point is not a separator
The decimal point does not split the number into two numbers. It marks where the ones place ends, and the value goes on shrinking smoothly past it.
Zeros between digits matter and zeros at the end do not. 0.905 has no hundredths, and that zero has to be written; 0.90 and 0.9 are the same amount.
