Numbers from 1 to 5

👀 Let's look
Every number has a shape and a name.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
A number has three faces
Every number has a name you say (two), a symbol you write (2), and an amount you can see (two dots). They are three faces of the same thing.
Learning a number means learning all three together. A child who can say four but cannot write 4, or who writes 4 without knowing how many that is, has learnt one face of three.
The symbol is not the amount
The 2 is one mark on the page, and it stands for two things. That is the whole idea of a numeral, and it is new at this age.
5 is worth knowing especially well, because it is a whole hand. After that, counting on from five is quicker than starting again at one.

This is what the number looks like.
